Grand Chiefs, Chiefs and political decision-makers

Working with Grand Chiefs, Chiefs and political decision-makers

Advising and supporting political leadership

Our mandate among the Grand Chiefs, Chiefs and political decision-makers consists of providing support. In accordance with our mission, we advise First Nations communities, governments and organizations in their actions affecting, in a general sense, health and social services, but also with regard, for example, to culture, income security and social inclusion, research and information resources, early childhood and educational childcare services as well as governance and community mobilization.

More concretely, the FNQLHSSC aims to:

  • Ensure that all First Nations are supported in their community development efforts in order to exercise their jurisdiction over health and social services.
  • Support First Nations self-determination, development and empowerment initiatives, for example, by coordinating the Quebec First Nations health and social services governance process.
  • Collaborate on special mandates and projects (e.g., surveys, briefs, reforms, consultations, committees, etc.) whose results can help communities achieve their objectives and ensure that First Nations are represented among various bodies.
  • Act as a technical advisor for the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL).
