In the area of life promotion and suicide prevention, we support and advise the First Nations communities and organizations. We assist them in the adoption of suicide prevention best practices. We support them in their efforts aimed at developing and implementing a suicide prevention action plan. Our team also works with health and social services workers, by advising them on possible interventions when suicide occurs in a community. In addition, we are responsible for coordinating the Regional Round Table on Social Crises.
We develop various tools concerning risk factors, signs of distress and suicide fact or fiction for the resource persons concerned as well as for the general population. We work to promote strategies and good social services practices that are adapted to the First Nations culture and way of life. These are based on the particularities of suicide among First Nations, as well as on research and current knowledge.
