The origin of the FNQLHSSC<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC) was officially created by the Chiefs of the Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador (AFNQL) on April 14, 1994*. It was the result of numerous discussions highlighting the need to create an effective connection to defend the interests of First Nations and support their priorities in the areas of health and social services.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Our purpose<\/strong><\/p>

Since its founding, the FNQLHSSC has worked with First Nations communities and organizations, its partners and the federal and provincial governments. Its goal is to:<\/p>

  1. To ensure that the First Nations in Quebec and Labrador freely exercise their inherent right to control health and social services program delivery to the citizens of their respective nations.<\/li>
  2. To provide technical support for research, as well as the development and promotion of community health and social services systems and models, upon request from First Nations communities.<\/li>
  3. To ensure that First Nations government delivery systems respect the fundamental needs of First Nations citizens.<\/li>
  4. To promote the free exchange of information and ideas concerning all aspects of health and social services development initiatives of communities.<\/li>
  5. To ensure that all First Nations are supported in their community development in order to exercise their jurisdiction over health and social services.<\/li>
  6. To study, promote, protect and develop in every possible way the material, cultural and social interests of the members, nations and respective communities; and to that end organize meetings, conferences and opportunities to exchange points of view and establish a secretariat to serve as a liaison between members.<\/li>
  7. To be a technical advisor and consultant for First Nations communities and the AFNQL in the areas of health and social services.<\/li><\/ol>
