(French only)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NIHB Program &#8211; Removal of single prescriber restrictions<\/strong><br>The Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program will soon be removing the single-prescriber restrictions associated with the Client Safety Program (CSP). In 2007, the Non-Insured Health Benefits (NIHB) Program introduced single-prescriber restrictions for certain drugs to combat the problematic use of prescription medications (e.g. opioids, benzodiazepines, etc.). Specifically, for certain patients, the identified drug categories had to be prescribed by a single physician. These restrictions were intended to reduce the risks associated with obtaining prescriptions from multiple prescribers or pharmacies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The continuing shortage of physicians and the implementation of enhanced prescription monitoring programs by the provinces are two important factors in justifying the removal of these restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The NIHB program will inform pharmacists and customers of this new measure via regular newsletters and updates.
