The primary network in place to respond to these issues is the National Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Program (NNADAP). NNADAP was one of the first programs developed in response to community needs. It evolved from the National Native Alcohol Abuse Program (a pilot project in 1974) to a Cabinet-approved program in 1982. Health Canada supports First Nations and Inuit communities to establish prevention and treatment programming and interventions aimed at reducing and preventing alcohol, drug, and solvent abuse among on-reserve populations and supporting overall community wellness.
