On July 17, the FNQLHSSC attended the official opening of a new food bank in Unamen Shipu.
As part of a community initiative, the sports and recreation department has launched a project to boost the community’s food security. The inauguration took place in the presence of councillor Ernest Courtois, elder Antoine Bellefleur, and many community members.
An expanded support network
Thanks to strong partnerships with various organizations, there will be a regular food supply with a diversity of products and two paid employees running the service. These collaborations have also contributed to:
- The construction of a yurt to house the food bank.
- The purchase of equipment to set up a collective kitchen.
- The acquisition of a truck to transport food from the boat that supplies the community and for deliveries.
A project for the future
This project goes far beyond the inauguration of a simple structure. It falls under a collective and sustainable effort to address food security challenges in a context of service decentralization. It provides the community with a model of local solidarity, which fosters autonomy while offering concrete solutions accessible to all.
Unamen Shipu has demonstrated that unity and community engagement are key to ensuring a better future and greater autonomy. This project will have a positive and lasting impact on the daily life and food security of all.
