Although First Nations in Quebec and Canada have rights to self-government, they are subject to both federal and provincial legislation, placing them in a political situation that becomes complex and difficult when transitioning towards a significant and even urgent improvement for the health of the people. This document presents a summary of these impacts on the administration of health and social services in communities and, consequently, on the overall health of the people concerned.
