Celebrating Today, Thinking About the Future

On June 3, 2026, the community of Wemotaci inaugurated new facilities, emphasizing the theme “Célébrer aujourd’hui, penser l’avenir” (celebrating today, thinking about the future). This important day marked the official opening of the seniors’ residence and the Tciman Centre, two key projects for the community’s development and wellness.

Inauguration
The event took place in the Seskitin Elementary School gymnasium and brought together many community members, partners, and dignitaries. The ceremony began and concluded with a prayer led by Ms. Jeannette Coocoo, a resident of the seniors’ residence. Attendees also enjoyed performances by the Northern Voice group, the unveiling of the new facilities, and speeches by elected officials and guests of honour.

Participants then gathered over a community meal and discussed these achievements and future community projects. A guided bus tour of the new facilities was also offered.

Seniors’ Residence
The seniors’ residence offers a living environment designed to meet the needs of its residents, with 20 adapted rooms and one dedicated palliative care room. It recently received its certification of compliance with the Regulation respecting the certification of private seniors’ residences, issued by Accreditation Canada. Its location was chosen by the seniors themselves so they could remain at the heart of community life and continue to actively participate in Wemotaci activities.

Tciman Centre
The Tciman Centre offers a safe environment suited to the needs of children. This new resource will make it possible to implement specialized services that promote their development and fulfilment within the community.
