Prevention of deconditioning in seniors and adults with decreasing independence

This training is intended for professionals working with seniors and it provides strategies to prevent physical deconditioning and maintain independence through adapted physical activities.

Participants will learn more about the health effects of aging. They will also learn techniques to be implemented on a daily basis to safely encourage movement, strength, and balance to maintain autonomy. The training will focus on engaging activities adapted to different health conditions and based on safety and individual capabilities.

The training combines theoretical notions and practical workshops to develop hands-on skills, including designing and adapting exercises to varying degrees of mobility. It also includes tips for recognizing signs of deconditioning–cognitive, physical and nutrition-related–as well as strategies to intervene effectively when these signs are detected.

Participants will leave with concrete tools to promote autonomy, improve quality of life, and support wellness. Adapted training programs will also be presented and distributed. The fall prevention and fall risk assessment component is available.
