Rights and Freedom Award On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the 45th anniversary of the coming into force of the Youth Protection Act, the Commission is highlighting a youth-related theme for this 2024 edition of the Rights and Freedom Award.

“Becoming an adult: Changing trajectories, nurturing hope” is the theme chosen for the Rights and Freedom Award, which this year seeks to highlight initiatives that equip or support young people in their journey to adulthood. A new website to improve the understanding of indigenous peoples On June 13, the Tshakapesh Institute and the Human Rights Commission launched a new website to better understand indigenous peoples. Visit the website now.

MADA and QADA information sessions The soutien à la démarche Municipalité des aînés (MADA) program aims to adapt policies, services and structures that affect built and social environments in order to put in place conditions that optimize the possibilities for active aging. The program offers support to municipalities, MRCs and Indigenous communities who wish to implement a policy and action plan favorable to seniors. It provides financial assistance determined according to the size of the community and technical support including advisory assistance and recommendations on all aspects relating to the MADA.

Québec ami des aînés (QADA) program financially supports activities and initiatives of local, regional or national scope. These projects help adapt living environments to the realities of seniors, with a view to allowing them to stay at home, in their community, in healthy, safe and welcoming environments. This program also aims to promote the participation of seniors in the social, economic and cultural development of their community. It relies on partnership, consultation and collaboration between stakeholders in the field to carry out projects with direct and positive impacts on seniors.

Believe in my talent! a campaign for racism-free sport launched by the Rights Commission This new campaign, developed by the Rights Commission in collaboration with young athletes aged 12 to 18, highlights the manifestations of racism in sport and encourages victims and witnesses to take action to make sport a racism-free environment. Monitoring the right to housing for people with disabilities A new monitoring project reveals that people with disabilities are over-represented in almost all aspects of inadequate housing and homelessness.  

This monitoring framework is a crucial accountability mechanism for ensuring that Canada is meeting its human rights obligations. Read the news release.

Training: Complex trauma and vulnerable populations – redefining our support practices CREMIS is offering a training course on the theme of complex trauma in vulnerable populations. This course draws on the readings and professional experiences of Nancy Keays, nurse clinician at CCSMTL and practitioner-researcher at CREMIS. To find out more, click here. (French only)
