Nishkat Network is a networking event dedicated to sharing best practices and developing initiatives for First Nations educational childcare services in Quebec. Held twice a year and attended by educational childcare service directors, the event aims to support approaches that respect culture, language, and autonomy, while fostering discussions and networking between communities.
Each meeting is centred around a common goal: to contribute to the wellness and harmonious development of First Nations children. To this end, the FNQLHSSC invites speakers from the Ministère de la Famille (MFA), as well as various partners, to address the needs of educational childcare services and share relevant information on various ongoing issues.
At the Nishkat Network meeting in March 2026, participants received an update on the negotiations for the agreement between the FNQLHSSC and the MFA, as well as training on human resources management; they also had the opportunity to visit booths of several partner organizations in the early childhood sector.
Highly valued by participants, Nishkat Network generates significant positive spinoffs for educational childcare services and hopes to continue holding events in the coming years to further support the development and wellness of First Nations communities.
“I really enjoyed attending a meeting with other communities and taking workshops tailored to the needs of childcare centres in different communities,” said a participant at the March 2026 Nishkat Network meeting.
