NIHB Program Update
An update to the NIHB Program was issued in October 2026, including the discontinuation of Suboxone tablet production.
Discontinuation of Suboxone Tablets
- The manufacturer plans to discontinue production of brand-name Suboxone tablets (buprenorphine/naloxone sublingual tablets) by early 2027. This change is not related to any modification in NIHB coverage.
- The NIHB Program will continue to cover buprenorphine-based treatments for opioid use disorder, including generic buprenorphine/naloxone tablets, Suboxone sublingual film, and Sublocade (extended-release buprenorphine injection). No prior authorization is required for these products.
- Clients currently taking Suboxone tablets should consult their healthcare professional to ensure a smooth transition to an alternative treatment option.
