In September 2021, the first edition of the Triathlon of Nations was held in Lac-Simon. The main purpose of the event was to give the community’s youth a chance to move their bodies by trying a new sport. It was a great opportunity for them to unlock their full potential and challenge themselves. Roughly 150 students from Amik-Wiche high school took part in the first edition, and the event is back and making a splash once again this year!
The triathlon revisited
A standard triathlon generally includes three sports: swimming, cycling and running. In this special edition, swimming was replaced with canoeing, a particularly popular sport among Lac-Simon youth.
The challenge consisted of a 200-metre canoe race in teams of two, followed by a 5-kilometre bike race and, lastly, a 2.5-kilometre footrace.
2022 edition
Participants are training hard for the second edition. In July, some Kitcisakik and Lac-Simon youth even had the chance to attend a training camp in Montréal, as well as a large-scale triathlon in Gatineau.
We are so excited to see these youth shine in this fun challenge!
