Webinar on the agreement-in-principle on compensation
Background
On January 4, 2022, after several weeks of negotiation, an agreement-in-principle on compensation and reform of the federal First Nations Child and Family Services Program was reached between Canada, Assembly of First Nations, First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada and other parties to end Canada’s discriminatory conduct. Under this agreement, the federal government committed to pay a total of $20 billion to settle First Nations claims, in accordance with the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal’s compensation order and class actions.
