The First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC), in collaboration with the Health and Social Services Centre – University Institute of Geriatrics of Sherbrooke (CSSS-IUGS), is offering First Nations communities in Quebec the opportunity to develop clear guidelines for suicide prevention. This initiative will be based on Quebec’s initiative to improve suicide prevention practices, which was launched in 2007 (piloted by CSSS-IUGS at the request of thedepartment of Health and Social Services). Its general aim is to implement structured suicide prevention measures in Aboriginal communities, drawing on tried-and-true methods that have been adapted to First Nations contexts. The initiative will consist of 4 distinct phases (based on the CSSSIUGS’s counselling terms of reference).
