This is a summary of the article entitled “Disparities in infant hospitalizations in Indigenous and non-Indigenous populations in Quebec, Canada,” by Hua He, MD MSc, Lin Xiao, MS, Jill Torrie, MSc, Nathalie Auger, MD, Nancy Gros-Louis Mchugh, MSc, Hamado Zoungrana, MSc, Zhong-Cheng Luo, MD PhD, which was published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal on May 29, 2017. Infant mortality is considerably higher in Indigenous infants than in non-Indigenous infants, even in developed countries such as Australia, the United States and Canada. The high mortality rates suggest an elevated risk of severe morbidities among the infants of the Indigenous populations.
