As the public health situation has been gradually improving in First Nations and elsewhere in Quebec over the past few weeks, the First Nations of Quebec and Labrador Health and Social Services Commission (FNQLHSSC) held its Annual General Assembly virtually, hopefully for the last time.
Following the elections, which took place on Wednesday morning, the composition of the new Board of Directors is the following:
President: Derek Montour, Kahnawake
Vice-President of Health: David McLaren, Kebaowek
Vice-President of Social Services: Amanda Larocque, Gesgapegiag
Secretary-Treasurer: Jean Vollant, Odanak
Other Board members: Donna V. Metallic, Listuguj, Joyce Bonspiel-Nelson, Kanesatake and Marceline Tshernish, Uashat mak Mani-Utenam
The FNQLHSSC would like to thank the members of its Board of Directors for their boundless dedication to the FNQLHSSC and the First Nations communities and organizations. The least we can say is that the past year was full of challenges, namely with the management of the pandemic, including the organization of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the work of Betty Carré and Karine Régis, who left in the past year to take on other challenges. We welcome Joyce Bonspiel-Nelson and Marceline Tshernish, our new Board members.
In addition to the elections, this event was also an opportunity to present the 2020-2021 annual report as well as the priority activities for 2021-2022.
The documents submitted as part of this event, including the annual report, can be found here.
Supported by a strong and united Board of Directors, the FNQLHSSC looks forward to the coming months with enthusiasm. Several major projects will require everyone’s contribution, such as the continuation of the health and social services governance process, supporting the communities and organizations in the implementation of the An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families, the First Nations Regional Health Survey and the development of tools related to the rights of users to access quality services and available remedies.
Thank you for your confidence in our team and your organization!
