A fruitful collaboration for the health and wellness of First Nations

Last spring, the FNQLHSSC signed a cooperation agreement with the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI). This agreement consolidated the continuation of fruitful and respectful relationships developed in 2019. More specifically, the partnership helped:

  • Provide quality information for improving First Nations health in Quebec.
  • Support the Quebec First Nations health and social services governance process.
  • Respect and build First Nations’ capacity for regional and community governance.
  • Implement culturally adapted forms of support.
  • Create key collaborations to facilitate access to quality services.

The CIHI is a Canadian not-for-profit organization that provides essential information about Canada’s health systems and the health of Canadians. As part of its strategic directions, the CIHI works with First Nations, Inuit and Métis to improve their health and wellness and support their data-related priorities.

As part of its collaborative approach, the CIHI’s guiding principles are the inherent right to self-determination of Indigenous peoples, data and information relating to health at the individual and community levels as important tools of self-determination, the right to collective sovereignty of First Nations and their fundamental authority over their data.
