The data presented in this report was collected in 2014. Since then, many changes have been made to the child and family services available to First Nations. For example, An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families (C-92)9 came into force in Canada on January 1, 2020. In particular, this Act puts forward national principles, such as the priority of preventive care, the best interests of the child, and substantive equality, which take precedence over the provincial principles set out in the Youth Protection Act (YPA).
