On December 7, 2023, Minister of Families Suzanne Roy introduced Bill 46, An Act to improve the protection of children receiving educational childcare services (“the Bill” or “Bill 46”) before the National Assembly. This brief outlines the concerns of First Nations1 regarding the Bill and makes recommendations to ensure that the interests of children in First Nations educational childcare services are fully protected. In particular, it recommends that certain aspects specific to the First Nations context be taken into account.
